Enjoying the Christmas-y Things>
This week has been nothing short of a whirlwind of celebrations — you know, between prepping for a party that's happening in about half an hour and reminiscing about the time we celebrated our wedding anniversary for a whole week. Chris and I decided this year to skip the traditional gifts under the tree and instead throw ourselves a week-long party. PA-RUM-PUM-PUM-PUM, ya'll.
So yes, I've been wrapping gifts all week, but not for him — that would break the rules we set. And let me tell you, all the wrapping paper flying around, the Christmas cards being addressed, the boxes arriving daily, it's like a full-blown celebration. And I might be caught dancing on the counters from time to time.
Anyway, here's a little glimpse into what we've been enjoying this week, all the Christmas cheer surrounding us right here, right now.
**The Untraditional Christmas:**
We took advantage of a special Florida resident discount at a nearby resort to enjoy this Christmas week. We spent two wonderful days and a fantastic night at the beach.
It was pure heaven. And as I mentioned before, I think I even spotted some skin shimmering under the sun. (For all you Twilight fans out there, you know exactly what I mean.)

The sky put on quite the show that evening.

Even the clouds seemed to celebrate with us.
**Outdoor Entertainment:**
While I was painting some crafts outside, a nearby tree became a makeshift jungle gym for my littlest one.

She definitely found her happy place.
**A New Hobby:**
And perhaps, just maybe, a Christmas present wrapped up in the form of lessons for the new year.
Daddy took her ice skating twice already, and then once more where they practically dragged me onto the smooth, slick surface of the ice. We glided along to "Baby It's Cold Outside," while girls just a bit older than my own twirled and leapt to their routines. And my little one? She absolutely adores it. She can't wait to go back.

Her laughter is music to my ears.

Little man loves watching from the sidelines.

**Quiet Play:**
There's something magical about watching him explore and discover new things.

Look to the right, a box! We've been receiving a ton of them from loved ones lately, and we're loving every single one.
**Christmas Parade:**
Something we've never done before. Back in Michigan, we'd be standing in a foot or more of snow, freezing solid if we tried to stay outside for too long. But here in Florida, it's a completely different experience.

Short skirts on little girls, though... I wasn't quite prepared for that.

Brayden definitely shared my thoughts on that one.

Oh, hello there, Santa.
**Old Traditions with New Friends:**
I missed having my sister-in-law, Crystal, around for our annual Christmas card night. It was always our thing. But I kept the tradition alive by inviting our nearby friends over for some pumpkin spice salted caramel hot chocolate, a cozy fire, and a viewing of *The Holiday*. We even got to address (and color and stamp) our envelopes together.

**Early Family Christmas:**
Our Christmas week started with my parents from Michigan visiting us and an early family gathering with the kids.

"I'm hidin'," he says. I die laughing, then get up again for the rest of the presents.

Papa is the best present-opener ever.
**Mail:**
This is the best time of year to check the mail! A wave of excitement washes over me every time it arrives. This year, I had to figure out a new way to display my favorite things: Christmas cards. Twine and mini clothespins saved the day.

**Our White Christmas:**
This change in scenery is still new to me, hence the "white sugared sand beach instead of the silent cloak of snowfall for Christmas" playlist on repeat.

And speaking of playlists, I should probably stop typing and get ready for guests. My counters are calling, and I need to dance on them one last time before everyone arrives.

Ya'll have a Merry Christmas, and see you this Sunday at Sunday Citar for the special Christmas post link-up!
