Supermodel vs. Superhero… the beginning, and a look behind the lens

"We should totally throw a model party!" Her voice squeaked with excitement as we snuggled up on the couch, glued to our late-night obsession—America’s Next Top Model. That was months ago, but it feels like just yesterday when we were dreaming up the idea. Life has thrown a lot our way since then—a cross-country move, a pandemic, and countless other surprises—but somehow, the vision of that party kept shining bright in my mind. Now, with my almost-five-year-old bouncing off the walls in excitement, this Saturday finally marks the day we bring our supermodel dreams to life. For us, birthdays aren’t just celebrations—they’re milestones, reminders of how much joy each child brings into our world. How could we not go all out?

Finding a way to make the event inclusive for both the girls and boys in our circle was key. Supermodels? Check. Superheroes? Double-check. It was the perfect blend of sparkle and action, ensuring everyone felt included. Word on the street is that there are plenty of little princes and princesses, along with mini superheroes, already practicing their runway walks and caped hero poses at home. The anticipation is palpable!

For these invites, I designed the layout myself and had them printed through Miller’s Lab (Mpix is their public-facing affiliate). The CDs were a DIY project—I created the labels using Avery templates from Walmart and sourced the CD hubs online from Desktop Publishing Supplies. Someday soon, I’d love to share some printables with all of you. Fingers crossed!

But back to the present moment. Right now, I’m armed with a hot glue gun, rolls of pink fabric, and an empty room calling out for transformation. It’s going to be magical—and chaotic—but hey, isn’t that what parties are all about?
