Shed sheds in insulated greenhouses

Shed sheds in insulated greenhouses

Brooding is a critical component of chicken farming, playing a key role in the success of poultry breeding. The author implemented an insulation brooding system using plastic film within a greenhouse and achieved excellent results. The setup involves a simple chicken shed that is 8 meters long, 24 meters wide, and 15 meters high. It is designed as a two-part structure: the upper section is a plastic-covered arch supported by bamboo poles, while the lower part consists of a wooden fence about 25 cm tall. This fence is positioned close to the inner wall of the plastic covering. The roof is equipped with six evenly spaced lamps, and the power supply is divided into three sections for better temperature control. A thermometer is hung 30 cm above the ground at one end of the shed to monitor temperature. The floor is lightly sprinkled with lime, and old straw mats are removed to ensure cleanliness. Trays and drinkers are placed at both ends of the shed. Before introducing the chicks, the lights are turned on three hours in advance (adjusting based on the season), and ventilation is opened every two to three hours by lifting the plastic sheets at both ends. When feeding or watering, the process is done from the sides without entering the shed, reducing stress on the chickens. Waste is regularly removed to maintain a clean and dry environment. This method offers several advantages: it effectively reduces the temperature difference between day and night in greenhouses, preventing chickens from catching colds or other illnesses. It’s cost-effective, easy to build, and materials can be reused after cleaning. The enclosed space isolates the chickens from external disturbances and pollution. The layout is flexible, allowing the fences to be extended as the chickens grow. The straw mats help absorb moisture, keeping the house dry and reducing disease risk. Additionally, four vertical columns around the shed help channel water along the inner walls, preventing chicks from getting wet. This insulation technique can also be applied to other types of birds, making it a versatile and practical approach worth trying.
