Brooding is a critical component of successful chicken farming, directly influencing the health and growth of chicks. The author implemented an innovative brooding system using plastic film sheds within greenhouses, which proved highly effective. The setup involves a simple, arched shed measuring 8 meters in length, 24 meters in width, and 15 meters in height. This structure is divided into two sections: the upper part is a plastic-covered area supported by bamboo poles, while the lower section features a wooden fence approximately 25 cm high, positioned close to the inner wall of the plastic film. Six lamps are evenly installed on the roof, with the power supply divided into three separate intervals for controlled heating. A thermometer is placed 30 cm above the ground at one end of the shed to monitor temperature. Before introducing the chicks, the lamps are turned on three hours in advance, adjusting based on the season. Every two to three hours, the plastic film is briefly opened for ventilation at both ends. Water and feed are placed from the sides, allowing people to avoid entering the shed entirely. The floor is lightly sprinkled with lime, and old straw mats are removed. Clean trays and drinkers are placed at both ends. Chicken manure is regularly removed to maintain a dry and clean environment. This method not only reduces disease risk but also ensures efficient management. One of the main benefits of this approach is that it addresses the issue of large temperature fluctuations in greenhouses, reducing the chances of chickens catching colds or other illnesses. It’s cost-effective, easy to set up, and materials can be reused after cleaning. The enclosed space minimizes external disturbances and pollution, creating a more stable environment for the chicks. The design allows for flexible expansion, with fences adjustable as the chickens grow. The straw mats used are highly absorbent, helping to keep the floor dry and preventing diseases. Additionally, four supporting columns help direct water from inside the shed along the inner walls of the plastic film, ensuring chicks stay dry. This insulation method is also suitable for raising other types of birds, making it a versatile and practical solution for small-scale poultry farmers.
