Anniversary Cultivation Technique of Bulbous Anise

Anniversary Cultivation Technique of Bulbous Anise

First, the selection of bulbous fennel varieties for anniversary cultivation should focus on cold-tolerant, heat-resistant, low-fiber, and crisp types. These varieties ensure better growth performance and higher market value under different climatic conditions.

Second, planting schedules vary depending on the growing system. (a) For winter and spring production in a solar greenhouse, planting is done from early November to early December, followed by transplanting between early December and early January, with harvest starting in early February through early March. (b) In plastic greenhouses with double-layer film and oyster-type systems, sowing takes place in early January, transplanting in mid-February, and harvesting around early April. (c) For delayed planting using plastic tunnels, sowing occurs in early August, transplanting in early September, and harvesting in early November. (d) In areas where temperatures are milder than winter, sowing begins in early September, transplanting in early October, and harvesting from late December to early January.

Third, scientific seedling cultivation is essential. For 1 mu (approximately 667 square meters) of bulbous fennel, about 100 grams of seeds are needed. The seeds should first be soaked in warm water at 20°C for 20 hours, then germinated at 22–24°C, with daily rinsing. Seeds can be sown within 5–6 days. The seedbed should be 12 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. It should be fully prepared with 30 kg of well-rotted manure, 5 kg of wood ash, 0.5 kg of NPK fertilizer, 5 kg of seedling fertilizer, and 3 g of soil fungus mixed with green hen. A solution of Shiyi Ning Shen Dan (100 grams per square meter) should be sprayed on the seedbed. After leveling, the bed is irrigated, and once the water has been absorbed, the seeds are sown with fine soil. After sowing, a 0.8 cm layer of screened fine soil is spread over the bed, and 2 grams of green hen per square meter is applied. In winter and spring, seedlings are planted in greenhouses and covered with plastic film and small sheds. The plastic is removed once 50% of the seedlings emerge. After watering, careful attention is given to wind protection. During the day, the temperature should be maintained around 24°C, while at night it should stay around 13°C.

Fourth, proper soil preparation is crucial for bulbous fennel. The soil should be deep, loose, fertile, well-drained, and located in a sunny area with good irrigation facilities. For each mu, apply 5,000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure, 50 kg of organic-inorganic compound fertilizer, 25 kg of potassium sulfate, 1 kg of zinc fertilizer, and 1 kg of boron fertilizer. Additionally, 1 kg of Fujimi soil sterilizer and 1 kg of carbendazim should be applied per mu for disease prevention. Also, 1.5 kg of Shiyi Nong Shendan soil exterminator should be added. After fertilization, the field is made into ridges 1 meter wide for planting.

Fifth, reasonable planting techniques are important. Winter and spring crops should be planted on sunny mornings, while summer and autumn crops are best planted after 4 pm on sunny days or on cloudy days. The planting rows should be 1 meter wide with three rows, spaced 30 cm apart in one direction and 25 cm in the other, resulting in approximately 7,500 plants per acre. When planting, a small amount of water should be poured during spring, and appropriate watering should be done in summer and autumn. After planting, 2 kg of fine soil is added to the planting hole, and 10 kg of finely sifted soil is spread around it. Once the fennel seedlings grow above 26 cm, top-dressing is applied using 15 kg of potassium sulfate and 15 kg of diammonium phosphate dissolved in water. After 15 days, drip irrigation is used with 700 kg of decomposed human manure, ensuring proper ventilation to avoid ammonia buildup.

Sixth, foliar feeding during the growth period significantly improves yield. Every 10 days, spray Jianzhibao biological fertilizer diluted 500 times, repeating this 1–3 times. Plant power 2003 can be sprayed 1–2 times, and a mixture of 50 ml rice vinegar and 25 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate in 15 liters of water can be sprayed 3–4 times. This practice greatly enhances productivity and plant health.
