Netherlands bean cultivation techniques

Netherlands bean cultivation techniques

In recent years, Dutch beans have gained popularity in the market due to their sweet and delicious flavor, delicate aroma, and high nutritional value. Their cultivation is becoming increasingly widespread in our province. Below are the key techniques for successful Dutch bean farming. **I. Field Management** 1. **Seedling and Growth Stage**: In the Netherlands, during the seedling stage, water should be carefully controlled to avoid excessive growth. Watering should begin from the bud stage until flowering. During this period, soil cultivation should be carried out, and a 0.01% solution of Tianfengsu should be sprayed. For every 15 kg of foliage, 3.5–7 ml of Tianfengsu can be applied to promote root development, enhance photosynthesis, and accelerate plant growth. It also improves resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew and brown spot. 2. **Flowering and Podding Stage**: After flowering, when the pods reach 2–3 cm in length, topping should be done. Apply 15 kg of urea or 20 kg of compound fertilizer per mu. Additionally, foliar feeding can be used by mixing 3.5–7 ml of Tianfengsu with 50 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate in 15 kg of water. Spray this mixture every 10 days during the budding stage, repeating it 3–4 times. 3. **Timely Support Structures**: As the vines start to appear, install support structures such as bamboo poles in a single row. Manually guide the vines onto the supports or tie them up as needed. **II. Timely Harvesting** Harvest the pods when they are fully developed but not overripe. It is best to pick them early in the morning to prevent the pods from bursting due to heat. **III. Pest and Disease Control** - **Powdery Mildew**: Spray with 50% mancozeb at 600 times dilution, 70% triadimefon at 800 times, or 50% sulfur at 500 times. - **Rust**: Use 50% mancozeb at 600 times or 50% rust inhibitor at 500 times. - **Brown Spot**: Apply 50% chlorothalonil at 600 times or 70% triadimefon at 800 times. - **Locusts**: Spray with 1000-fold diluted cypermethrin or 2.5% imidacloprid at 1000 times. - **Bean Aphids**: Use 4.5% lufenuron at 1000 times combined with 30% acephate at 600 times, or 2.5% lufenuron at 1000 times. - **Leaf Miners**: Spray with 2.5% chlorfenapyr at 1000 times, 30% dimethoate at 1000 times, or 20% emamectin benzoate at 1000 times. It is essential to stop applying any pesticides or fungicides at least 10 days before harvest to ensure the safety and quality of the final product. Following these practices will help farmers achieve higher yields and better-quality Dutch beans.
