When phosphorus is lacking, the leaves turn dark green and lose their glossy appearance along the edges. The stems appear short and underdeveloped, and fruit stems tend to be small and may drop prematurely.

Potassium-deficient plants often show yellowing along the leaf margins, with stalks that are prone to falling over. The veins may look burnt or dried out, especially on older leaves.

Leaves may curl or shrink, and the roots can turn brown. Iron deficiency causes chlorotic patterns in the veins, while young leaves may appear pale like egg yolks.

A severe whitish discoloration of the leaves can indicate low soil phosphorus levels. Boron deficiency usually results in slow early growth, with leaves that are small, thick, and deformed, and the ears (if applicable) are not clearly visible.

Zinc deficiency leads to small, clustered green leaves with irregular spots on both sides. Plants may become stunted, and fertility is delayed. Copper deficiency causes yellowing at the tips of young shoots, with curled leaf ends.

Leaves may develop necrotic spots and eventually die as they wither. Manganese deficiency shows early symptoms such as dead spots between the veins, with dark green, ribbed veins and yellowing on new leaves.

Magnesium deficiency typically affects older leaves first, causing a reticulate chlorosis pattern. As the deficiency progresses, the leaves may age and turn brown, leading to necrosis.

Sulfur deficiency symptoms resemble those of nitrogen deficiency, but they first appear on younger leaves. This distinction helps in identifying the actual nutrient issue. Visual symptoms can provide clear clues for diagnosis.

Calcium deficiency causes yellowing and necrosis in young leaves, and root systems may become weak and prone to rot. Recognizing these symptoms is crucial for timely intervention.

Proper identification of nutrient deficiencies allows for targeted corrections, which can significantly improve crop health and yield. It’s important to carefully observe and respond to any signs of nutrient stress in plants.
