In 1998, the average yield of Jinmai 70 was recorded at 3007.5 kg/ha, representing a 12.6% increase compared to the control variety Jinmai 53. The following year, in 1999, the average yield dropped slightly to 2907.0 kg/ha, but still showed a significant 15.2% improvement over Jinmai 53. Over the two years, the average yield reached 2964.0 kg/ha, which was 13.6% higher than the control, placing it at the top of the rankings. In 1999, the variety also participated in a production trial in the late-maturing winter wheat region of central Shanxi Province. At five out of six test sites, it showed increased yields, with an average of 2517.0 kg/ha—6.5% higher than Jinmai 53. Jinmai 70 is a strong winter-hardy variety with a full growth period of 267 days. After emergence, the coleoptiles are green, and the seedlings are robust, with semi-erect tillers and high spike formation rates. Following heading, the stems and leaves are covered with a waxy layer, giving the plants a greyish-green appearance. The plant has long, upright leaves that remain green for a long time, with rapid grain filling and uniform ear distribution. It produces large panicles with big grains, and its height is approximately 75 cm, with strong, flexible stems that resist lodging. The spikes are of the sticky type, with long awns, white husks, and hard seeds. The thousand-grain weight ranges from 35 to 40 grams, with 26 to 30 grains per spike, and more than 3.75 million spikes per hectare. This variety is drought-resistant, heat-tolerant, and adaptable to various conditions, offering high yield potential. It performs well in dry years and can produce even higher yields when properly managed. Due to its sturdy stalks, it can be planted in general fields with moderate water and fertilizer, and even with one or two fewer irrigation cycles than other varieties, it can still achieve high yields. It is considered a high-yield, water-saving wheat variety. Its heading and ripening periods are slightly later than Jinmai 53 by 2 to 3 days. In terms of disease resistance, Jinmai 70 demonstrated strong resistance to rust under artificial inoculation conditions. It showed low infection levels on dominant races 30 and 31, as well as leaf rust. During two consecutive years of testing at the Daejeon Institute, it performed exceptionally well. It also exhibited a Grade 1 resistance to warts, indicating a high level of disease resistance. Quality analysis conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture's Grain Quality Supervision, Inspection and Test Center revealed that Jinmai 70 has a crude protein content of 15.15% (dry basis), wet gluten of 33.6%, and a sedimentation value of 35.0 mL. These characteristics classify it as a special variety suitable for noodles and steamed bread. Ecologically, Jinmai 70 is well-suited for planting in late-maturing winter wheat regions of central Shanxi, as well as in dry and medium-fertilized areas of northern winter wheat zones. It can also be grown in drought-prone regions of Linfen, Yan'an, and Tianshui, where it shows good adaptability and performance. For cultivation, the optimal sowing date is late September. On dry land, the recommended seeding rate is 187.5 to 225.0 kg/ha, while for irrigated fields, it is 150.0 to 187.5 kg/ha. Seed treatment with triadimefon or a seed dressing is advised. Winter watering is essential, and in early March, the fields should be loosened and warmed. In mid-to-late April, after the joints begin to form, herbicides should be applied to control weeds. After jointing, apply 225–300 kg/ha of ammonium nitrate or 225 kg/ha of urea to support growth.
