Determine the fault location of the load car
Agricultural machinery, especially engines that cannot be operated due to faults like axle pull (or burning), camshaft failure, and cylinder pull, is often referred to as a "load vehicle." When such issues occur, blindly disassembling the engine can be time-consuming and inefficient. Therefore, it's essential to identify the exact fault location accurately before proceeding with repairs.
When an axle pulls or burns, the wear-resistant alloy layer inside the bearing may flake off and mix with the engine oil. Some of this debris will be drawn into the oil passages by the oil pump and get trapped on the filter element. As a result, one of the first steps in diagnosing a load vehicle is to open the oil filter cover and inspect the surface of the filter for any signs of alloy powder. If such particles are present, it strongly indicates an axle pull or burn.
Once the axle issue is ruled out, the next step is to check each connecting rod for excessive axial clearance. If no abnormalities are found, the main bearing caps should be removed one by one to examine the condition of the main shaft's bearing surfaces for signs of wear or burning. If no alloy powder is detected, the problem may instead be related to the camshaft—either a burn or a pull.
To confirm a camshaft issue, the thrust screw on the timing gear chamber cover should be removed. Then, use a crowbar to gently push the camshaft along its axis. If the camshaft does not move freely, it’s likely burned. However, if it moves without resistance, the issue might be a different type of failure, such as a cylinder pull.
By following these systematic diagnostic steps, technicians can efficiently pinpoint the root cause of the problem, saving both time and resources in the repair process. This approach ensures that unnecessary disassembly is avoided and only targeted inspections are performed, leading to more effective and cost-efficient maintenance.
