Scientists find female menopause prediction methods>
Recently, scientists have developed a new method to predict when a woman's menopause will begin. This groundbreaking test provides a "road map" for women in their later years, helping those in their 40s who are gradually experiencing a decline in fertility. It allows women to better understand their chances of becoming pregnant after a certain age. The findings were recently published in the journal *Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism*.
The research team studied over 6,000 women approaching menopause. They measured three key hormones in their blood—anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and inhibin B—to estimate the number of eggs remaining in their ovaries.
The study revealed that these hormone levels change significantly within five years before menopause. Specifically, AMH levels drop to very low or undetectable levels, signaling a reduced egg reserve. At this stage, many women find it more difficult to conceive naturally.
Researchers believe this discovery is important because it fills a gap in current medical knowledge. Doctors currently lack precise tools to track the decline in hormone levels and how it affects fertility and the onset of menopause. Dr. Bill Laigir, a professor of maternity and women’s health at the University of Sheffield, said, “Now we can say that if you have a specific level of follicle-stimulating hormone, it’s highly likely you’re still in your childbearing years.â€
This test could help women make more informed decisions about family planning and healthcare as they approach midlife.
