Four seasons sea shading conservation

Four seasons sea shading conservation

Sea otters are sensitive to sunlight, especially during the summer. To ensure their comfort and healthy growth, it's important to manage their exposure to light. Provide them with shaded areas and limit direct sun exposure. If you're keeping indoor plants, place them in well-ventilated spots with indirect light. Open windows at night to allow fresh air circulation and improve the overall environment.

Watering should be done carefully. While sea otters prefer a moist environment, it's better to keep the soil slightly damp rather than overly wet during hot summer days. Avoid watering frequently throughout the day or leaving it too long between waterings. Instead, check the soil regularly and water only when the surface starts to dry out. When you do water, make sure to give it a thorough soak, but don’t let the soil become completely dry before the next watering. The best time to water is around 9 o'clock in the morning.

Fertilization should be adjusted based on the plant’s age. For new plants that were propagated last autumn, applying a diluted fertilizer (1:5 ratio) after each bloom can help promote growth. Apply this once a week, and you may see another round of flowering after two weeks. However, for older or weaker plants, stop fertilizing when temperatures exceed 25°C. Resume fertilization after the blooming season to encourage a second round of flowers later in the year.

Disease and pest control are essential during the summer months. High humidity and heat can lead to bacterial spot disease, which appears as dark brown spots on leaves and spreads quickly. To prevent this, spray an equal mixture of Bordeaux solution before symptoms appear. Also, ensure good ventilation and proper care practices. If the disease occurs, remove and destroy infected leaves immediately to prevent further spread. In addition, summer is a peak season for pests like locusts and spider mites. Use eco-friendly pesticides promptly to protect your plants from damage.

By following these guidelines, you can create a more balanced and supportive environment for your sea otters and plants, ensuring they thrive even during the hottest months of the year.
