Beautiful and elegant aquatic flowers - Thousands of food (Figure)

Scientific name: Lythrum salicaria Linn.

Common Name: Water Willow

Family: Lythraceae

Origin: Native to Europe and temperate regions of Asia, including China, where it grows wild in both northern and southern areas.

Morphological Characteristics: Lythrum chinensis is a perennial herb that can reach heights between 40 to 120 cm. The leaves are arranged opposite or in whorls, and they are lance-shaped or broadly lanceolate with entire margins and no petioles. The underground root system is thick and woody. The above-ground stems are upright and have four distinct edges. The plant produces long terminal spikes covered with numerous small flowers, which are densely packed. The flowers are typically pink, red, or blue-purple, and they bloom from June through October. There are approximately 27 species within the Lythrum genus, with Lythrum salicaria and Lythrum oleraceum being the most commonly cultivated varieties. In the wild, Lythrum chinensis often grows alone or in clusters among other plants, which has given it the symbolic meaning of "loneliness" in its flower language. This unique growth habit makes it an interesting addition to wetland gardens or naturalized landscapes. Its vibrant blooms attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it both aesthetically pleasing and ecologically valuable.
