New method of laser plus nanotube treatment of tumor

Researchers at the University of Wake Welfs in the United States have made new progress in using lasers to treat tumors. They used MRI to successfully determine the location of the carbon nanotubes after they entered the tumor tissue, and irradiated them with a laser and heated them, thereby destroying the tumor tissue.
Heating and destroying tumor tissue with lasers is not a new technology, and laser-induced thermal therapy (LITT) has been used. However, there is a problem in laser-induced heat therapy. Since nanoparticles capable of absorbing laser energy are injected into the patient's body, people cannot track their footprints, so it is difficult to accurately know whether the nanoparticles enter the tumor tissue. If the nanoparticles enter normal tissue and are heated by the laser, they can cause unnecessary damage.
To avoid the drawbacks of laser-induced heat therapy, researchers at Wake Welfs University replaced iron-containing Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) with commonly used nanoparticles and used NMR. The imager tracks iron-containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes. In experiments performed on biological tissues with experimental mouse tumors, the researchers determined the location of iron-containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes by means of a magnetic resonance imager.
