Medical electronics market requires high performance ADC

In electronic systems, the bridge between analog and digital worlds is a high-performance conversion technology. In professional applications such as medical electronics, the performance requirements of data converters are more stringent, such as high sampling rate, high precision, low noise, low power consumption, low price and small package size.

ADI's recently introduced Precision 16-bit Successive Approximation (SAR) ADCAD7626 is specifically designed for high-performance industrial and medical devices that can process data at high speed while maintaining data integrity. Especially used in medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital X-ray systems. The speed and precision provided by PulSARADC allows medical procedures to be performed more quickly and efficiently, reducing patient MRI examinations and exposure time under X-ray radiation.

The AD7626PulSARADC refreshes 16-bit data acquisition performance with an extremely high 15-bit effective number of bits (ENOB) and a 10-MSPS sampling rate. The AD7626PulSARADC provides a 92-dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that is 8dB (1.3bit) higher than other architecture ADCs. For applications that do not require a 10-MSPS data rate, the AD7626 can be easily multiplexed. For example, some medical imaging devices can use the AD7626 in a dual-channel configuration where the sampling rate per channel is 5MSPS, which allows system designers to reduce the number of converters by half, thereby reducing bill of materials costs.

The AD7626 is available in a 5mm x 5mm LFCSP package and is 70% smaller than comparable products and consumes only 130mW. The AD7626 uses a self-synchronizing LVDS bus that provides a very low noise interface and reduces the number of external components required to reduce board-level noise.

ADI's PulSAR product family is based on an ADC architecture that provides the added benefit of zero data latency, which is critical for precision data acquisition systems.
