Effects of Heat Stress and Other Adversity Treatments on Root Growth of Cotton Seedlings

Using the transgenic cotton (DP, BG), color cotton (ZH, LV) and common white cotton (HK) five cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L) varieties, the root growth characteristics of the cotton seedlings were studied in a light culture room. The results showed that: 1 Scission roots significantly inhibited the growth of cotton seedling roots, and the degree of root clipping was the greatest at the second day after germination. DP and BG were sensitive to the root cutting time, while HK and LV were sensitive to the degree of root clipping. 2 Moderate water deficit can stimulate root growth of cotton seedlings, HK is very sensitive to water deficit, other varieties have a certain tolerance, but the tolerance mechanism is different: DP, BG to increase the length of the root, ZH, LV to increase the root system Dry matter dominates. 3 Short-term heat shock treatment significantly inhibited root growth of cotton seedlings, but the degree of inhibition varied with heat shock treatment time, temperature, and time. 4 Hormone IAA soaking seeds can promote root growth of cotton seedlings. Root area, length and dry weight increase, ZH, DP and LV are sensitive. BG and HK are more insensitive. The best concentration of soaking seeds is: 4-Cl-IAA and 5 , 6-Cl2-IAA 1ppm, IAA 20ppm.
