Monthly Imports of Fresh Frozen Pork in China Increase, Hog Prices Continue to Rise

According to statistics, the monthly import of fresh frozen pork in China was around 15,000 tons in 2010, and it was about 25,000 tons for three consecutive months since November 2010. In November, December and January 2011, the imports of fresh frozen pork in China were 24,000 tons, 28,000 tons and 29,000 tons, respectively, an increase of about 80% year-on-year.

It is understood that since October 2010, the price of live hogs in China has shown a rising trend. After a slight fall in December, it continues to rise and continues to the present. In the off season of pork consumption during the year, the price of live pigs was opposite to that of previous years, and the increase was more than the year before. At present, the average purchase price of live pigs is around 15.0 yuan/kg, up by about 17.0% from the beginning of October and up by more than 50% from the same period of last year. The price of live pigs continues to rise, and the country will introduce a control policy for underpricing.
