Herbal flower plug breeding technique method

Herbal flowers are widely used in gardens, streets, squares, flower arrangements, flower beds, as well as the beautification of venues and families. In the following, the commonly used red flowers, marigolds, national day chrysanthemums, zinnias, petunias, cockscombs, asters, and clover flowers are used as examples to introduce the method of plug propagation of herbaceous flowers.

Herbaceous flowers are sown and propagated, generally using potted plants and sowing. However, this method uses a large amount of seed, the soil temperature is not easy to control, emergence is uneven, vulnerable to underground pests, low seedling rate. In recent years, the sowing seedlings used for seedling cultivation have saved seeds, are easy to manage, have robust seedlings, have no seedlings for transplants, have high seedlings, and can shorten the production cycle. The implementation steps are as follows.

(1) Seed treatment. The seeds were full, high vigor and high germination rate. For a bunch of red seeds, they must be stirred in warm water at 60°C for 20 to 30 minutes before sowing. Then soak in the water for a while, rinse off the pods, rinse with clean water, drain the water and let it dry. It can also be soaked with trisodium phosphate, gibberellin, rinsed and air dried.

(2) Matrix selection. The main substrates are peat soil, vermiculite, and perlite, which require no pathogens and pests. Peat and vermiculite are usually mixed by 2:1 and sieved. It is also possible to use self-contained matrices to mix rotted organic fertilizers, furnace ash, and garden soil, and sieve them as a substrate, but they must not be blended with inorganic fertilizers.

(3) Determine the tray. The size of the tray is determined by the size of the seed. The current commercial specifications are 72 points, 128 points, 288 points, 293 points and so on. Sown a string of red, marigold, Zinnia can choose 72 points, petunia, cockscomb, aster can choose 128 points. For reused used plugs, they must be cleaned, disinfected, and dried before they can be used again.

(4) sowing. Put the substrate into the plug before sowing, and use a glass or wood board to gently scrape off the excess substrate above the plug and gently press down on the plug with the substrate (the depth of the press is based on the size of the seed. Set, generally 1 to 3 mm, should not be forced to compaction; then the seed is seeded into the plug tray, 1 per hole, and then gently covered with a layer of fine soil with the hole.

(5) Water spray. Need to spray to the bottom of the plug to seep out of water. Very small seeds (such as petunias) do not need to be covered with soil, nor can they spray water from above, but they must be infiltrated from below. A white sheet of paper is placed on it to prevent the seed from being washed away when the water is sprayed in the future; when it germinates, the paper has become lumpy and has no effect on sprouting.

(6) Germination. After sowing, the trays are moved into the greenhouse for germination. The greenhouse should be properly shaded to maintain high temperature and humidity. The general temperature is controlled at 25°C to 30°C and the relative humidity is above 95%. Different species, sprouting time is slightly longer. When the young shoots emerge, they can be removed from the greenhouse and the seedlings can be cultivated for 7 to 10 days. When the seedling height is 5 to 6 cm, they can be transplanted into a nutrient bowl or pot for conventional cultivation.
